Matala & Knossos | Day 49

Hello, everyone!
Welcome to my blog life! My name is Leander (Lionder) (anyway) and today I'd love to talk to you about two of my recent visits; Matala & Knossos Palace. Are you ready for the ride? Enjoy!

The previous Wednesday we paid a visit to Matala and Knossos Palace with my family and friends. It was just wonderful!
I've got so many memories that I'd love to share with you and some pictures among them.
My friends K and M arrived in Crete for holidays some days ago so we took the chance to guide them to some wonderful destinations. We had so much fun together!

1st Visit: Matala
We woke up early in the morning to get ready for a 2 hour ride. The journey was comfortable and, of course, full of endless conversations that I loved between my family and friends.

We arrived in Matala and parked our car in their parking lot. We walked down the beach and were amazed by its beauty. The first thing that we did was to explore the archaeological site which was the mountain where Hippies would live. There were dozens of caves (in which I would have no problem living in) and you could walk inside of them, explore them, pretend to be a hippie and take as many pictures as you want.

They were really cute and the fact that people used to live there some years ago fascinated me. There were whole rooms inside of the caves with passages that would lead to other rooms and my curiousness for exploration would never stop. I couldn't reach some higher caves since the mountain was tall and dangerous to discover wearing flip flops. But I was happy to had reached to the point that I could.

Then we enjoyed the sea. I put lots of sunscreen on my body as the sun was really hot and we swam in the waves of the Matala Beach.

I've never been on the annual Matala event-celebration in my life. I would love to someday. It's a little bit dangerous though due to the fact that everybody gets drunk but everyone I know that has gone there, has the best memories.

We then took a walk in sidewalk where all the cultural stores were. It was beautiful. There were also paintings on the ground. I took a picture of my favourite ones.

I like Beatles and Bowie music. Their type of music is old and you don't listen to it a lot nowadays but it's fascinating and special. I love their songs and art.

Then we ate at a good restaurant and drank some coffee at a coffeehouse (I don't drink coffee) where the view looked like this.

 It was wonderful visiting Matala.
We also met an original Hippie and took a picture with him. Wow. It's beautiful. I had watched a documentary about Matala some months ago and while I was there, I could feel all of the vibes.

2nd Visit: Knossos Palace
I'm fascinated by that. I wish I could get into a Time Machine and travel back to Ancient Greece JUST for a day. I just would love to see their routine, their life, how they used to speak, what they were doing and how they were communicating. The fact that we know so many things about that old time but still there are so many things that we haven't discovered yet, and I know that, amazes me!

I've been there 2 times in my life. The first one was when I was really young and we paid a visit with my school. I don't remember much from then. But all I could hardly remember since then vanished away and got replaced from what I saw now. I'm happy about that!

We arrived there and it wasn't that crowdy (when we finished our visit there was a huge line of people waiting to get in and dozens of busses in the parking lot. It was just a matter of an hour).
We explored the whole place and I could never miss the chance to touch with my hands the old walls of the old - half broken buildings (I don't know if that's forbidden, I hope not). :)

As I'd walk along the passages of the ancient palace, I'd try to imagine how it would look back then. And always I would be fascinated by the thought that someone someday discovered all of this and now we are able to know more about that culture and learn significant information in schools. Although I don't like history at all or Ancient Greek, I do feel so proud about the respectful and wonderful civilization that my ancestors created. I'm so proud to be Greek.

The Ancient Greek culture has inspired me a lot through out the years even though I'm not a fan of visitng museums etc but I'm always so deeply moved by all that I know about that.
I have so many pictures to show you guys because I didn't stop clicking the button of the camera but I don't think I can put them all in this blog post so I chose the best ones.

So, that was my experience! I hope you liked this post!
Don't forget to smile and be happy! Love you..

Peace, Lionder
