"Perfect Illusion" is free | Day 68
STORY TIME!
Before I begin telling you my story, I would like to say that I'm Leander and I'm so happy that you're here for one more time and if you are a new reader, I'd be happy to know that you like our content and become a part of our little family over here. Thank you.
Now, It's time for story time!
On September of 2016, my idol Lady Gaga released her first pop song in 3 years "Perfect Illusion". You can't imagine how much happy I was when I learned about the news that it would come out soon and you can't imagine how much happier I became when I listened to the song for the first time.
I decided before the song came out that I had to do a cover of it and that I had to make it as good as I can, put all of my passion and creativity into it and celebrate the release of the new Gaga single. So, when I got to listen to the song, I didn't change my mind. I was going to do a damn cover.
I did it.
I worked hard but I absolutely made it come true. All of my visions for this cover became true. I directed it from the first day that I listened to it, went to the studio, recorded it and then did the video shootings. The video shootings took me 3 days and over 6 hours of filming in general and the editing process.. omg I can't even remember how much it hurt.
Long story short I saved it and uploaded it to YouTube. My family and friends liked it and I was so happy they did 'cause I had worked so much. I wasn't sleeping at night but never regretted it. I really try to take business seriously and I would do anything about what I love.
I uploaded it and immediately received a STRIKE from YouTube which was telling me that I had used the original audio of the song. What the actual duck?
They claimed that it wasn't a cover but the original track performed by Lady Gaga. I was shocked and speechless because there wasn't only a notice by the company, but it was a strike. Which meant that my content would not be able to be viewed on mobile platforms and in Germany.
When I found out about that, I immediately sent a message back in which I was defending myself and I was claiming that I hadn't harassed the law and my video was legal since it was a cover and it was highlighted everywhere (title, description, video) that it was a cover.
The Record Label of Gaga's did not approve my response and put a strike again in my video. So, as I would normally do on any occasion in which my rights could be trampled, I replied back insisting and saying the same things.
YouTube gave me a total of 28 days to rethink of their copyright strike. After 28 days, they announced that they would take down my video. I had a week to fight for my video until it went down. I was sending messages to Lady Gaga over twitter, her record label over all of the platforms that I could, I was calling the Greek company that represents Gaga's record label in Greece but never got an actual and a clear response. They clearly didn't have time to engage in my problem. I doubt if they even tried.
I was devastated seeing my content going down and with that, a lot of hours of work went down as well.
And then I realized that I FREAKING HAD A COPYRIGHT STRIKE ON MY CHANNEL. Which meant that if I reached the limit of 3 copyright strikes on my channel, my channel would be terminated. That was horrible. My whole dreams and work of years would just disappear in a second without a reason.
So, until the strikes were completely erased I didn't do anything. But when February came, I had the greatest idea.
I changed the karaoke music of my cover and uploaded it again. Now, YouTube didn't put any strike and my content is free and available for everyone to watch. I'm so glad about that. I really worked hard for it and I'm so happy that it's up.
To sum is up, (I'd like to believe that) My cover is free... It was a really disappointing process and I wish I could think of the changes that I did a little time earlier so I could not lose that much time but anyway. Everything's fine!
That's all, people! I hope you liked this story. Thank you for being by my side. You really help me a lot.

To be more specific, I woke up in the morning, went to YouTube, and without even having opened my eyes completely I streamed it and it felt like paradise. It was just like heaven. I don't how heaven looks like or feels like or anything, but the only thing that I know is that I fell in love with the song and if heaven gates exist, I know they play Perfect Illusion in the entrance.
I decided before the song came out that I had to do a cover of it and that I had to make it as good as I can, put all of my passion and creativity into it and celebrate the release of the new Gaga single. So, when I got to listen to the song, I didn't change my mind. I was going to do a damn cover.
